This strikes me as a particularly female thing, too. Women beware of that temptation to apologize in advance for your work. A grad school professor once pointed this out to me and said men do it far less often, if at all. So keep that in mind next time you feel the need to sabotage yourself before you've had a chance to hear real feedback.
