Weekly Wordcount Check-in: 250, 500, 1000 wds/day
I'm out of town right now with sporadic online access, so won't be posting much in Inkgirl this week. But I'm still going to try to get in my daily wordcount, dangit! I'm also going to experiment with doing some of this writing on my new iPad.
Do you need a wordcount challenge with some leeway?
Check out the challenges below:
250 wds/day | 500 wds/day | 1000 wds/day
So how did you all do with your daily wordcount challenges since the last check-in?

I am still moving upwards in my word count goals. I am at 10,938 for the past week. I am not where I want to be with my personal goals but I am maintain and doing my best to double my word count goals as far as what I have commited to. Still behind for the one million word goal for the year but good bad or whatever I am writing everyday without a break for at least an hour each day :) I hope everyone has a good week :)
Just found this challenge and decided to give it a shot. I am a graduate student, pre-dissertation, and working on writing qualifying papers. I have noticed that a good portion of the life of an academic is spent avoiding writing even though that is mostly what we do. I would like to disrupt this by writing at least 500 words daily (do these 50 count?).
My daily output has been steadily increasing. The expected production is 1,750 words per week, but I added an extra 1,493 words to that number. I'm opting to move to the 500 Words A Day Challenge. I'm sure I'll be able to keep up.
I began this process on March 4th. I've written 13,014 words thus far. I'm looking forward to the extra challenge. Best wishes to everyone in the week to come!
I seem to be on a good week/bad week split at the moment... last week was a good week: I spent the time I wanted to spend on the work, and made good progress on figuring out some serious holes in the setting. I found out some interesting things about orbital mechanics, engaged in some gutter trigonometry (which I always enjoy), and was able to use the words "subtend" and "albedo" in appropriate and interesting ways.
It's been a disruptive exercise, but in a good way: the initial signifier for the alienness of the world has gone from something trivial and silly to something profoundly different. Some of the ideas I had have evaporated under the hot glare of reason, but others have sprouted in their place.
This next week (assuming it is not a bad one) I am going to focus on character arcs and thinking about how the social effects of the world's alienness can be shown. I will be taking a week off after that since we are on vacation, but I am hoping to have the holes at least signposted by the end of April and to start the second draft of book one in May (when I will actually be doing a thousand words a day).
Every week I tell myself that this will be the week I put in six days of 500 words, and every week I end up with five days of 500 words. I guess I should just relax and be content with that.
My feeling of being stuck with the story was partly due to the fact that all I ever saw of the story was the last paragraph I've written. Now I have downloaded Scrivener, and having the option of dividing my story into scenes, and seeing those scenes as index cards next to each other has made a major difference. I actually made a plan for the next three scenes, an amount of planning preciously unheard of.
So, all is good.
And I'm amazed at how much some people write, I'm in awe. Oh, and I'm not doing Script Frenzy this year despite being sorely tempted. Slow and steady is my new motto.
For some reason I'm stuck in "3 days a week land," I think partially because I was so close to the end of my story. Now I'm done with the first draft & it's time to visit editing land. Not sure what to write during the editing process. Might take the whole week off because I have to go camping Friday-Sunday and know I won't get enough writing in anyways. Maybe I should stick it out, but I'm not sure.
Yay! I did it! I'm so proud of myself. This has been a great motivator to help me get started on a daily writing routine. Even when I was exhausted, I thought, "Surely I can squeak out 250 words."
I started on the 30 so I'm fairly pleased to have kept to the 500 a day with the exception of Easter Sunday (family, Easter, things like that!)
250 left to do today, though...
I did pretty average this week. Made my goal on only a few days but most days I almost wrote enough to get a thousand words.
I'm kind of afraid I'll find out that I'm a binge writer. I seem to write a lot or a little depending on the flow of the story and of my life.
Here's hoping for a more regular writing schedule this week.
I make the average word count easily enough, but as always it's the consistency issue I have. I wrote about 9K in the last seven days. After the terrible month March was, things are turning out better.
Feast or famine here. 1000 words one day, zero the next-hmmm, so the word count is always going up.
Jumped into the challenge mid-week, but so far so good. I haven't written every single day, but if I skip a day, I double my word count the next day. I am really excited about the productivity I am getting. Thanks for creating this wonderful challenge!
I did all right at the start of last week and the weekend hit and things just tumbled down from there. I got back on the horse and am working back up to speed again. 250 isn't that hard of a goal, really. Five minutes as soon as I focus my mind on one project.
Let us know how writing on that iPad works out, Debbie! I'm awfully curious.
Debbie,
I've got this urge to pick on you :)
Here you are, wandering around the hotel smiling, showing off your IPad, and you aren't doing any work on your website! Hey, I'm here too, and I managed to get an article written and posted this morning.
Shame, shame, shame [GRIN].
Gotta love hotel wireless!
@Wayne: Let her have fun with her new toy. I can't say I wouldn't be doing the same if I were in her shoes. LMAO LMAO! Ya'll have fun :)
K.D.,
Just showed her your post - she got a good giggle out of it.
