Do you need a wordcount challenge with some leeway?
Check out the challenges below:
250 wds/day | 500 wds/day | 1000 wds/day

So how did you all do with your daily wordcount challenges since the last check-in?

Just checking in to say I'm starting the 500 word challenge! I found this page during NaNoWriMo, but it's taken me this long to commit to writing :) Thanks for doing this! It helps those of us who are motivationally challenged.

I really charged through things last week. I spent the bulk of my time writing where I needed to and Wednesday decided to rewrite the beginning. Also, Editorial Ass' Write-Your-@ss-Off-Day (well, in my case weekend) encouraged me to set aside Saturday and Sunday for nothing but writing.

My total for the last seven days is about 21K and I wrote a little more than 14K where I needed to write, so 7K was spent on blogging and other piddly things, which is an acceptable number this time around!

I'm a little frustrated now. Last week, I was doing good with the challenge. But this week, I'm a little left behind. Okay, I'm way too left behind. Tomorrow afternoon I'll try to catch up on a thousand words.

I started strong. Did over my 250 word goal for four days. Finished a short story. Then fizzled out. But it's a new week, right?

February 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

Not great. I'm not sure of the exact count, but I came close to the 500 per day goal. However a leg injury and my husband returning from a week at an orphanage in Mexico sidetracked me for the last few days. Back to the routine today.

Write write write!

1010 words. Not so good. Let myself be distracted by too many things, including getting a shiny new laptop. But I wrote 415 words today, so this week may be better.

Average of 1100.89 per day so far. I am surprised again that I got it. Slowly but surely, I keep plugging away at it. Soon, though, it will be time to edit and that will drop like a rock.

Hit my goal of six hours of book writing activity for last week, specifically mind mapping seventeen chapters of novel geography, characters, flora and fauna. Five more chapters to mine for such details in book two, so should be well into mapping book three by end of week.

However this week is already shaping up grim (sleepless child at home, deadlines at work), so I have a bad feeling that that six hour goal may slip. I will work hard to keep on track, though.

I'm doing well so far! It really helps to just let go of the hang-ups we writers tend to attach to our works and allow the words to just get on the page.

My challenge is still just a 5 day a week challenge but I'm still suceeding! Averaging 284 words a day, which equalled out to 1400+ this week. It's a small drop in the bucket, but still important practice. Next week is pretty much a guaranteed fail. My boyfriend is coming in from out of state (Long Distance Relationships SUCK) and my friend is getting married. Busy week. Will try though.

February 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCassi

Nailing down wedding plans this week has kept me from writing. I hope to do better next week.

February 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterReesha

I am signed up for the 500 words a day and managed a total of 5659 words from Monday - Thursday. Got busy during the weekend and all my motivation went out the window.

This is my first week of doing the 250 words/day challenge, and I am proud to say I reached my goal 6 days out of 7! Thank you for offering this challenge. This is the perfect thing to get me back into a regular routine without feeling overwhelmed at the outset. (Not to mention that the icons are super cool!)

February 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCherise

Last week I improved but still not where I want to be in word count. I did 5419 words for the week but I am really trying to step it up where I can :) Hope to keep moving up ward :)

I participated in Moonrat's Write Your @ss Off Day and snagged almost 5,000 words on Saturday. Then I wrote again on Sunday.

The current challenge is to make sure I write tonight... better get off the blogs soon :-).

I missed Tuesday and Saturday last week (my husband's Grandma died and then there was a funeral, and I stayed over to chat with the family and make sure they hold on). I made up for the loss though (not too hard to do on 250 word challenge ;)) and am moving on.

February 9, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterIeva

Well Ive just started the writing challenge. Im actually a copyeditor and proofreader that also loves to write so I began the challenge thinking I would only manage 250 words, but so far Im on fire. I have a few blogs I write for currently so its not too hard to make sure I keep to the challenge. Will have to change the logo to 500 word Challenge. BTW. I love the comic strips. Very clever.

I'm doing well! I can't speak for the quality of what I write all the time, but I'm writing, which is what I've needed.

Last week I also started going through The Artist's Way, and the morning pages have been great for getting me motivated right away. Then I just have to keep the momentum going.

February 10, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

I have had a bit of a problem with my keeping track of when I wrote but as far as I can tell I wrote at least 500 words for at least 6 days that week. I'm good with that.

Of course I have the feeling that it's all crap but then I just unearthed a story Iwrote about a year ago, and that I'm really pleased with so I guess I'll just let this story sit until judging it.

I have been moving my writing time from evening to morning, and that means I'm far more likely to do it.

February 10, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSusanne

I'm doing really well at keeping up with my word count, I've only missed the 1000 words once in the last week, and that was due to forces beyond my control (work meeting lasted through my lunch, leaving me only enough time to scarf down a sandwich and none to write...)

February 10, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

Just added the badge to my blog today, and wrote a post to help hold me publicly accountable:

http://brooklynreject.blogspot.com/2010/02/1000-words-day-challenge.html

Thanks for doing this. I typically have a high word count when I write, but have times when I have many-day lulls in my writing activity. This will help keep me on-task.
