Children's books on the iPhone
If I had young children, I would SO be loading up my iPhone with children's books like this Cat In The Hat e-book:

Hey there! Dr Seuss is definitely awesome, but there are other new story apps out here trying to make it that are also cool and worth a shot. Also, we're only 99 Cents :) Our app is called StoryPlease (http://bit.ly/STORYPLEASE) -- It's a great and fun way for kids to learn to read and stay occupied on the iPhone or iPod Touch. We've noticed that in testing our app for a few months and playing with it that kids love adlibbing their own stories.

This looks fantastic and I can see little reason that the app is not a success. The fact that the iphone comes out of Mothers or Fathers pocket will add an extra dimension of interest to the story.
How long before the iphone or similar is at a price that they are found in the nursery?
This looks like a good idea. I mean sure,you can try the first two books on the iPhone. However, actual books still have their own taste.

Although I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to preferring the printed word over the digital, I do think that downloading children's books is a great tool. Much better than hand held video games. Just be prepared for sticky fingers on you i-pod!
