So who's going to join me in the 1000 Wds/Day Challenge in 2010?
To those who took up the 1000 wds/day or 500 wds/day challenge last year, how did you do?
And how many of you want to join me in the challenge THIS year? For those who haven't heard of this challenge, the goal is to write 1000 words a day, at least six days a week. If you miss the occasional day or days, that's ok -- the goal is to keep up the motivation even if you sometimes slip up.
Too often, I find that writers start motivational challenges like NaNoWrimo with enthusiasm and good intentions, but give up when they start missing their daily targets for more than a few days in a row…undermining their confidence and defeating the purpose of the original challenge.
You can read more about the 1000 Words A Day Challenge here.
You can also aim to write 500 words a day instead (or you want to drop down from 1000 during the year) or the 250 Words A Day Writing Challenge (just added!).

I found this challenge very helpful so thank you very much. Actually wrote a post about it on my blog!

I finished the 1st draft of my novel using this method. Now that I am editing, I have a little bit of a different strategy (I have a list of 'scenes' to edit and try to edit 1 scene a day) But I certainly will be challening myself to 1000 words a day when I start my next book!
I'd be very interested in the challenge. As a haiku writer, primarily, I think I should go for the lower goal. Thanks for the links. I'll look into it.
I'm joining, but only for five days a week. I like the idea of a weekend. :)
I ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE!
I accept this challenge. Though I'm doing the smaller version... You go ahead do the bigger one XD
Aw, heck, why not? 'Tis the season!
I'm in. I hope this counts revisions :)
Due to being a fulltime college student I know I can't do 1000 or even 500, but I'll try 250.
It fits in with my own goal for trying to write at least 3 hours a week.
Since I write in a corporation for a living, I'm just going to count what I put on my three blogs and other creative writing. I'm going for the 500 words per day challenge.
Just what I needed. Am going to take on the 500 word challenge...I'm terrible without a target!
Thanks,
Kelly
Great idea! Thanks!
Five hundred sounds manageable. I'll give it a try :)
I picked up the 1,000-word challenge, and I'm finding it's making daily writing much easier with a focus and a goal--and it's actually helping me organize the rest of my life as I fit regular activities around making time for the 1,000 words. I've also started keeping a page on my blog recording daily word counts and my success or failure. So thank you for this; so far it's been fun and has boosted my motivation (not just in writing; would you believe this pushed me to start working out again?) tenfold.
I'm in! I have high hopes for this writing year, and I think this challenge is just what I need to accomplish my goals!
This challenge was very helpful last year. Thanks, Debbie!
I plan to join you again this year as much as I can, even though I have a wedding to plan. I'll try not to cheat by making lists of things to be done count as words! ;)
Oh, and I accept the challenge of 1,000 words per day.
I'll take on the 250 word challenge!
Write on! :^)
Thank you so much for the challenge, Debbie! I'm game!
I'm game. I'll do the 500 words a day; I need to get back into the habit of writing anyway, and having a word-count challenge seems a great motivator.
Thanks for the great idea.
P.S. I am going to count revisions done on my "project," but only new paragraphs added (substituting words won't count).
I will totally do 1000 words a day! Though I can't do six days a week, so I'll have to double up and do 2000 on one of the days.
I'm gonna start with 250 and if I'm a good girl then I'll upgrade to 500.
I had planned to join up this year but the Fates have decided otherwise. I cannot write 1000 or 500 words a day consistently until I get a new computer! I will, however, write by hand until the headaches start.
I will be taking on the 1000 words a day challenge. I have big goals for 2010 and am hoping that with joining the proper communities I can achieve these goals. I will only be counting words written if it is towards one my stories though, so blog posts, e-mails and work stuff doesn't count, as I could easily reach twice that amount daily by counting those other means. It is supposed to be a challenge - so I am aiming to push myself beyond 1000 words as often as I can.
I made it one of my career goals for this year to write 1K a day, so I guess I'll join the challenge now that I know it exists! Thank you for this!
Count me in. 1000 words a day with the option to adjust later. Editing can drain a word count goal.
