Q. Any tips on how to make my Twitter feed more interesting?

There is no magic recipe for having an interesting Twitter feed. Reason: it depends heavily on who you are and on your audience.

Part of me has always wished I wa one of those people who could be consistently post those witty one-liners that make people laugh out loud and that get a zillion retweets. But that's not me and if I tried to be that person, it would backfire.

So instead, I thought about what *I* could contribute to the Twitterverse that was authentically ME and would appeal to my Twitter audience. For me, this began with posting comics and advice for aspiring writers. Over time, my focus gradually changed to include illustration, so I also began posting doodles and sketches.

I'm also a photographer, so sometimes I'll post some of my favourite photos. But I always keep my audience in mind, and the focus of my Twitter feed.

It's one reason I have more than one Twitter account (I don't recommend this for everyone!). For kidlit/YA writing and illustrating, I use @inkyelbows. For more personal, geeky and random blatherings, I use @debbieohi. For pure boardgaming, I use @BGGgirl. 

Some basic advice for keeping your Twitter feed interesting:

Avoid doing ALL retweets of other people's posts.

Include some personal content. Give people an idea of who you are, apart from your professional work. However, don't overdo it! I strongly advise against posting any photos or text that gives away info that you'd like to keep confidential (such as your house address). 

Visual content usually gets more attention.
